Artist's statement

In experimenting as an artist, I often stop and ask: ‘what is art?’ Simply put, it is a way of expressing or communicating a feeling, an emotion, or a mindset. In these pieces, I have attempted to express the scene of an all-night party in Seoul, South Korea through collages of the setting.

The posters and postcards in these pieces come from Seoul, South Korea, and advertises for a party, a club, A DJ/musician, or the like. Most of the poster-sized or postcard-sized ads were found taped to the walls or on the ground. Few posters or postcards survive longer than a couple days – those not picked up by a party-goer are soon swept away by an army of ajumma or torn off the walls and thrown away. The impermanent purpose of these pieces is obvious - they represent a party or event that will come and gone. However, the catharsis – the release of the idea or hope – can continue to live on.

Each piece has been uniquely created and numbered. There is no way I or any other artist could precisely recreate any of these works.
