why are you putting the postcards on canvas?
and how is this this mixed media?... its just one medium and isn't it just an appropriation of another persons art (that being the posters that a graphic designer made)
hit me back @ mikedurkee.com
ps: i found the info on the zoo very helpful. thanks!

Mike (and all other comment readers),
Before I came to Korea, I used paint chips as my medium in much the same way. Link to the US pieces is http://www.chrisbacke.com :) After experimenting with framing and hearing several ideas, I stuck with canvases and sealing the art with a finishing agent. On a practical level, they're easier to transport, no glass to break, and take glue and paper easily. On an artistic level, I got several comments from people who seemed to get lost in the art, and the frame seemed to jar them back to reality.

You are correct about their only being one medium. Perhaps another classification such as Found Art, Abstract, or Abstract Expressionism would be more appropriate - what do you think?

Appropriation of another persons art? One way of creating art is to rearrange elements of an original art piece to create something completely different. If one is not free to 'appropriate' others art on a fair-use artist basis, we eliminate the joys of listening to a DJ (who spins records - produced by other people), mixtapes (combinations of other people's music), or mashups (combination of other people's music to make a new composition) and collages of virtually any kind.

Creating each piece of art requires some derivative / decompilation work to make the story and piece come alive. That there are so many different ideas and themes to work with keeps the creative juices flowing :)

I love the energy your work conveys, and I imagine it portrays the environment you find yourself in perfectly.

I'm also an artist (more into Realism though) and find Abstract Art absolutely amazing to look at.

Will be going to Korea next year for a teaching experience and artistic inspirations - hope to see you and your work there!
